Q. Divorce decree stated that husband had to turn shares on house over to me within 3 months. During a disagreement in 2022 he said “remember I own this house too”. He hid it from me for 19 years. In fall of 2022 I retained lawyer and had his name taken off and new shares in solely my name. I paid all maintenance monthly and all utilities on house believing it was mine for 19 years. Is he responsible for half bills since he was on deed and shares as co owner.
A. Only your divorce decree (along with any settlement agreement accompanying same) would dictate whether he’s responsible to pay any such bills – at least in absence of a separate tenant lease between the two of you. Schedule a consult with a Bronx Divorce Attorney for a full assessment.
